In the article published on Sunday, the 7th of August 2011, the Sunday Independent Newspaper titled “Tokyo’s bid for ANC flops” claims that the ANC Youth League is discussing and finalising lists for the ANC 53rd National Conference. This is totally not true, because at no stage did the ANC Youth League leadership and structures discuss the names of Comrades who will be preferred for leadership in the ANC 53rd National Conference. The ANC has not yet given an indication on when such should begin and the ANC Youth League will only be guided by the directive and guideline of the ANC in this regard.

The ANC Youth League has, since our 24th National Congress, been engaging structures and leaders of the ANC about our Congress resolutions, particularly the programme of action for economic freedom in our lifetime. We do so because it is the programme of action for economic freedom in our lifetime which will ultimately guide the ANC Youth League’s perspective on the ANC leadership question. As things stand, the ANC Youth League does not have a position on the final list of who should be leaders of the ANC elected by branches at the 53rd National Conference in December 2012.
