The African National Congress Youth League could have not responded to the media reports on the statement made by ANC YL former President alongside ANC YL President Julius Malema when they were donating R20 000 each to Chomee's bursary fund on her birthday party celebrations. But because the media and now joined by opportunistic elements are deliberately misreading what was said, we carry a revolutionary responsibility to put issues into clearer context.

ANC YL former President Fikile Mbalula and ANC YL President Julius Malema pledged R20 000 each towards Chomee's bursary fund, which is meant to fund education for poor children who deserve to go to school. In pledging the money, former President said the money they are pledging is relatively not enough for the cause to fund the education of poor children. This was then misinterpreted by some as meaning that R20 000 is nothing, and altogether missing the point of what was said. If R20 000 was nothing, the leadership could have not donated such amount. They however donated the amount in full knowledge that the education of poor children across the country who need assistance will require more than R20 000.

Opportunists seem to have now joined the band and portray ANC YL former President and ANC YL President as leaders who are insensitive, only concerned with pursuit of money. This notion should be dismissed with contempt because those who recurrently loose debates and electoral politics in the ANC resort to labelling and spread of crazy allegations that those whose ideas are dominant use money to influence the ANC. Opportunists should never blame their intellectual laziness to allegations of inappropriate money exchanges, they should instead change their attitude and understand the ANC better in order to influence its direction.
