The ANC Youth League applauds the outcomes of the ANC Limpopo Provincial General Council, which sat on the 31st of July 2011 in Polokwane. The declaration which the ANC PGC adopted says amongst other issues that, “We will also defend the right of the ANCYL to raise critical issues within ourmovement. We also support the nationalization of mines and other strategic economic sectors as one of the necessary conditions for social ownership and control of our economy”. As an ANC resolution at the level of a PGC, we believe that this gives more inspiration to Economic Freedom Fighters to continue with struggles for economic freedom in our lifetime.

The ANC Youth League also applauds all the regions of the ANC, like Nkangala region in Mpumalanga who have taken official resolutions to support Nationalisation of Mines at the regional general council level. We call on all provinces and regions of the ANC going to their respective RGCs and PGCs to take official resolutions on nationalisation ofMines and other strategic sectors of the economy to reinforce the “greater consensus on nationalisation of Mines and other strategic sectors of the economy” expressed by the ANC National General Council in September 2010.

Whilst noting the research the ANC established task team is undertaking on nationalisation of Mines and other strategic sectors of the economy, the ANC Youth League re-asserts that ultimately the decision to nationalise Mines rests solely within structures of the ANC. The ANC will ultimately take the decision to Nationalise Mines, and not any other grouping or task team as some had sought to suggest. ANC members and structures should continue to interact with the ANC Youth League at all levels and engage on the 24th National Congress report back sessions that will be convened across all provinces.

Otherwise, the ANC YL is very inspired by the progress made and the official support from ANC structures on the key policy positions we have adopted.
