The ANCYL in Mpumalanga imagines that these must be especially trying
times for the ANC, our beloved movement, as they are for thousands of us
ordinary members who have and still are striving to serve movement of the people
loyally and diligently every day.
We say this to apologize in advance that we impose an additional burden to
its many loyal members by sending out this statement.
As the province prepares itself for the grueling process of BGMs in
pursuit of 54th National Conference in Mangaung in December, a number of events
and a set of worrisome questions still linger in the minds Youth League and
many of its members.
The deteriorating quality of constitutional democracy in the organization
and dictatorial tendencies in this part of the country is a serious cause
for concern, all in the illusion of defending the gains of Polokwane and
subsequently Mangaung, is slowly eroding the liberation movement.
The drama filled events of the past few days makes one wonder whether the
ANC as the leader of society still exist here. The silence of the ANC in
the province of Mpumalanga is baffling if not deafening, more so on the
arrest of Mr Bobby Motaung and his subsequent appearance in the Nelspruit
Magistrate court. Reading the charges against them, *prosecutor Patrick
Nkuna said forged SA Revenue Service documents - which had led to the
pair's arrest - might be linked to the time "the killings in Nelspruit
started". Nkuna replied: "We will state in the trial that these [forged]
documents are the source of the murders."*
The ANC chooses to remain silent in an arrest that clearly implicates
those that may have had a hand in the killing of one of their own deployees in
the Mbombela council, a killing the people of the province are still
reeling in shock over.
In the same breath, the ANC Youth League in the province would like to
appeal to the distinguished doyen of South African football, the legend Mr
Kaizer Motaung, to immediately relieve Mr Bobby the position of team of
the brand Kaizer Chiefs. The team Mr Motaung snr will obviously know draws its
many loyal supporters from the Youth League.
The ANC Youth league in Mpumalanga remains a disciplined component of the
organization and respects processes of the ANC on the pronouncement of
leadership for Mangaung. We were however shocked by the remarks and
conduct of Free State Provincial ``Chairperson`` cde Ace Magashule and his PEC
when addressing the ANC Ehlanzeni RGC which was convened specifically for
lobbying purposes, a process the organization put a dead stop to, until in
the nomination process is officially open.
He had allegedly openly canvassed delegates to vote for cde Jacob Zuma in
Mangaung which is in sharp contrast with NEC decision not to pronounce on
leadership until October. It is alleged that he further enthusiastically
cautioned that those opposed to Zuma`s second term should be beaten and
injured. Events that unfolded in a sub-regional meeting in Nkangaka Region
is testimony to Magashule`s call, in which a member of the YL who declared
to be supporting Zuma and Mabuza tried to assault other members and was
accordingly attended to by half the members in attendance of that
particular meeting.
In our view, the behavior of cde Magashule was divisive in nature and his
call fatal, with its intentions clear, in the light of the continuing
butchering of ANC members in the province and should have been attended to
immediately by the NEC of the ANC. We call upon the NEC of the ANC to
investigate this and discipline Magashule as we view this as serious
contravention of ANC NEC decisions and its general principles of
non-violence.
We are also concerned about his promise to the group of twelve who
voluntarily resigned from the PEC of the ANC Youth league in that he,
himself, will raise the matter to the NEC of the ANC. Who does cde Ace
thinks he is?
We would accordingly like to advise cde Ace to go mend his relations with
the Youth league of Free State, the Provincial Secretary cde Sibongile
Besani, all ex-PEC members and all other cadres he robbed in that
province, cdes who eventually boycotted the conference and refused to legitimize a
stolen congress that elected him as the Provincial Chairperson of Free
State for 20 years now. We wish to see cde Ace as soon as possible and
take him through a few modules on how to win congresses fairly.
In principle the ANC Youth League is not opposed to Intra party structural
relations, but we view in very serious light the factional manner in which
Mpumalanga ANC, as a sign of admitting its multiple deficiencies and
short-comings has resorted to turning the province into one of the regions
of Ace Magashule`s 20 years iron fist ruled Free State province, which
like Mpumalanga is never really so free.
Over and above all the issues raised, the peoples of the province still
wait with bated breath the release of the findings of the NWC report,
which highlights explicitly the deep rooted problems in this province. We also
call upon the NEC to release this long overdue report on their
interventions to the Province in trying to resolve the problems of
Mpumalanga from 1998 to date*.*
May we also remind those who care to listen that SAPS has still to release
into the public domain, the preliminary or final findings on the 12 member
strong task team to investigate the killings in Mpumalanga, as
commissioned by cde Bheki Cele in January 2011.
As the Youth league prepares itself for a long overdue Cadres Assembly on
Sunday, we wish to condemn all the underhand tactics the ANC in the
province will attempt to sabotage the event by trying to extend a long
exhausted booking through the legislature.
For the record that venue is fully paid for and dully authorized by the
stadium management for exclusive use by the ANC Youth League as we have
been made aware that madam mayor in Mbombela municipality is also sweating
to have an impromptu mayoral golf dinner, especially to sabotage the event
of the YL.
Waiting with keen interest as to how much more do we still have to see?
Yours in the struggle for Economic Freedom in our Lifetime
