The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) on Thursday said it stood by its views on Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Helen Zille, despite "intimidation and threats".
"The threats and intimidation of racist Helen Zille and DA supporters will not stop us from articulating what we decide to articulate," the youth wing's spokesperson Floyd Shivambu said.
The League claimed Zille was having sex with members of her provincial executive council, after she described newly elected President Jacob Zuma as a womaniser who had put his wives at risk of contracting HIV.
This in turn reportedly led to angry Zille's supporters sending racial and insulting sms's to Shivambu, whose cellphone numbers were published in the Afrikaans newspaper, Die Burger.
One of the sms's reads: "We don't care what the ANCYL has to say....The white man will always be boss in South Africa."
Shivambu said Zille was a "racist girl" who did not respect women, and African people, cultures and traditions.
"'Her 100% male and predominantly white Cabinet was never justifiable."
He said the League understood the concerns and disappointment of the ANC leadership, which has since distanced itself from the League's remarks.
Shivambu said the League would soon meet with the ANC to discuss and defend its position on all statements and remarks it made about Zille.
"We further believe that her behaviour and sentiments are symptomatic of someone who was dropped on her head when she was a child," added Shivambu.
