The disciplinary hearings of ANC Youth League president Julius Malema, four other office bearers and spokesperson Floyd Shivambu have been postponed until Thursday, said ANC spokesperson Keith Khoza.

"The hearing depends on the availability of all parties," Khoza said on Tuesday.

"There are lawyers and other people that might have other commitments. This wasn't the plan from the from the onset," he said.

The hearings are being held in Kibler Park, south of Johannesburg.

Malema, African National Congress Youth League secretary general Sindiso Magaqa, deputy president Ronald Lamola, treasurer general Pule Mabe, and deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi were expected to give their final arguments to the disciplinary committee on Tuesday.

They were defending themselves against an accusation that they "barged" into a meeting of ANC leadership.

Shivambu and Magaqa would have separate disciplinaries on separate matters, if time permitted.

Malema would also have a separate disciplinary hearing.

The ANCYL leaders face charges in terms of rule 25.5 (q) and rule 25.5(o) of the ANC's constitution, which deals with members' discipline.

Khoza said the hearings had proceeded with no disruptions outside the venue at the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre.

Earlier, a Sapa photographer said mounted and metro policemen were on the scene and a small group of journalists were allowed to wait in a nearby park.

There were a few people in plain clothes at the building, but no large group of supporters.

On the opening day of the hearings at ANC headquarters in Sauer Street, Johannesburg, last week, groups of people pledging support for Malema threw stones, bricks and bottles in the streets of the CBD, so the venue was changed.
