The ANC Youth League joins the nation in celebrating the 87th birthday of a great icon who personified the struggle for freedom and the aspirations of ordinary South Africans.

As Madiba celebrates his birthday, we celebrate another day of being blessed with his presence and continue to draw inspiration from his exemplary leadership.

Indeed Madiba, as one of the founding fathers of the ANC Youth League, alongside Oliver Tambo, Walter Sisulu and Anton Lembede, remains a father and a true elder of the ANC Youth League, whose wisdom continues to guide and motivate us.

As we celebrate Madiba's life, we must similarly celebrate the leadership collective of the ANC that has been instrumental in ensuring that the legacy of great leaders of this glorious movement lives on and the traditions they founded continue to inspire our forward momentum as a nation and as a people.

Throughout your life, Tata, you have consistently emphasised the supremacy of collective leadership, an attribute that has been, and continues to be a pillar of strength to the ANC.

As young lions, our task is to ensure that the future we inherit is consistently inspired by the vision and teachings of your generation and the subsequent generations of ANC leadership.

We salute you and wish you many more birthdays.

It is our wish and prayer that the Almighty will keep him for many generations to come in order for those generations coming after us to be directly inspired by this great icon.

Happy Birthday, Tata.
