The ANCWL condemns in the strongest possible terms all forms of rape, no
matter who they are committed by. We are deeply disappointed that an ANC
politician who is fully aware of the implications of the law has been
alleged to have raped a young woman of more than half his age.

The ANC Women’s League will be there to support the victim of the alleged
rape during this difficult time, and throughout the court process. A
strong message must be sent out that any kind of gender based violence, rape or
abuse will not be tolerated by society or by the ANCWL especially if
lleged to have been committed by an ANC comrade who is familiar with the
constitution and the rights of women and who should be an example to
society.

The ANCWL have been trumpeting the call that alleged rapists should not
get bail and the call here is no different.  The law must take its course and
justice will be served.

Rape is epidemic in our society and must be stamped out completely.

ANCWL members in Polokwane will be outside court tomorrow demanding no
bail and showing our support for the young women during this time.
