Addressing the media on Sunday about what the committee had decided at the meeting, ANC secretary general Kgalema Motlanthe said the committee had agreed that the newly-elected government faced many challenges.
The committee paid tribute to the people of South Africa for their keen participation in the electoral process.
It also welcomed the manner in which the election was contested and commended the exemplary conduct of the leaders, members and supporters of all parties.
Furthermore, it thanked the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for its dedication in ensuring the success of the country's third democratic elections.
Motlanthe said the challenges and tasks faced by the newly-elected government were among others, the steps to foster higher rates of investment in key sectors of the economy.
He said the success in the improvement of rates of investment in recent years in sectors like the automobile industry, tourism, information and building construction should serve as a guide to further deepen and expand investment in these and other sectors.
Another critical factor, he added, was that of education and skills development in ensuring improved access to poor communities.
He said problems relating to financial assistance for tertiary students had to be addressed and that institutions such as Umsobomvu Youth Fund had to play a much greater role in developing employability of graduates and other youth.
When asked about the ANC's relationship with the New National Party, he said, "Our relationship with the NNP is fruitful and of cooperation. The message that they convey is correct – that we have to work together for the good of all South Africans."
In closing, Motlanthe said NEC joined millions of South Africans in praying for the recovery of South Africa's diva, Brenda Fassie, who was in a coma, but passed away yesterday. - Sapa
