The African National Congress led by its president Jacob Zuma will again dominate the seats of the national assembly, the IEC announced on Friday.

Applause erupted as IEC chair Brigalia Bam displayed the seats on large screens.

The ANC had, based on the high number of its votes, secured 264 seats in the national assembly and 126 on the national provincial list.

The Democratic Alliance received 67 seats in the national assembly and 16 provincially.

New kid on the block Congress of the People took 30 seats in the larger legislature and 16 provincially.

The Inkatha Freedom Party received 18 seats in the national assembly and nine in the provincial legislature.

The United Democratic Movement, the Freedom Front Plus and the Independent Democrats each received four seats in the national assembly and three spots on the provincial list.

The Pan Africanists Congress of Azania received one seat in parliament and one on the provincial list.

The United Christian Democratic Party received two in the national house and one in the provincial one.

The African Christian Democratic Party received three seats in Parliament and three in the national provincial list.

The Azanian People's Organisation, the Azanian People's Convention and the Minority Front received one seat in each house.

The provincial legislature per province is as follows:
The 63 seats in the Eastern Cape by virtue of 2,256,088 voters
was allocated as follows: ANC, 44; Cope, 9; DA, 6, UDM 3 and the AIC, 1.

In the Free State 1,033,322 people's votes were taken into account in the allocation of 30 seats. The ANC received 22, the FF Plus 1, Cope 4 and the DA 3.


In Gauteng the 73 seats will be assumed by ANC with 47, the DA with 16, Cope with 6 and the FF Plus, IFP, ID and ACDP with one each. The valid votes counted in the province was 4,157,048.

In KwaZulu-Natal, the ANC again dominated taking 51 seats of the 80 available. The IFP followed with 18 and was in turn followed by the DA with 7. The ACDP and Cope received one vote each and MF held two. There were 3,482,987 valid votes counted.

In Limpopo valid votes counted were recorded as 1,491,072. Of the 49 seats, the ANC took 43, Cope 4, and the DA 2.

In Mpumalanga the ANC received 27 of the 30 seats available. The DA received two and Cope received one from the 1,297,775 valid votes.

In the Northern Cape where 404,418 valid votes were counted, the ANC received 19, Cope, 5, the DA 4 and the ID, 2.

The North West was another victory for the ANC with 25 seats out of the 33 taken. Cope received 3 and the UCDP claimed one. There were 1,075,323 valid cotes counted.

In the Western Cape of the 1,967,751 valid votes counted, the DA trumped in claiming 22 of the 42 seats. The ANC took home 14, Cope, 3, the ID, 2 and the ACDP one.
