The meeting between a delegation of the stalwarts and veterans of the ANC who are signatories to the document “For the sake of our Future” with the National Officials of the ANC took place today the 5th December 2016 at Luthuli House.

This was a sequel to the previous meetings held by the stalwarts and veterans with the National Working Committee of the ANC on Monday the 21st November, and on the 25th November 2016 preceding the meeting of the National Executive Committee of the ANC.

The delegation representing the stalwarts and veterans consisted of cdes. Wally Serote, Sheilla Sisulu, Sydney Mufamadi and Fazel Randera. In turn the National Officials of the ANC were represented by the Deputy Secretary General cde. Jessie Duarte, the Head of Policy, cde. Jeff Hadebe and the Treasurer General cde. Zweli Mkhize

This meeting takes place subsequent to both parties having had an opportunity to report back to the NEC in the case of the ANC and the veterans and stalwarts also having reported back to their constituency at a meeting which was held on Thursday the 1st of December 2016.

The purpose of the meeting was to further engage on the holding of the National Consultative Conference proposed by the stalwarts and veterans as a prelude towards the resolution of the crisis confronting the ANC.

The National Consultative Conference as envisaged by the stalwarts and veterans has as its major purpose to reflect on all aspects of the state of the organisation and prepare for the 2017 National Conference.

The Conference will also need to discuss the selection and election of credible leaders – free of blemishes, factionalism and corruption based on the precepts expounded in the ANC document “Through the eye of the Needle”. The deliberations and resolutions of the Conference should contribute to the leadership that leads the ANC to the next national election.
In this regard the meeting discussed among other things:

• The approach and roadmap towards holding the National Consultative Conference (NCC).
• The content of the NCC.
• Considering the extra-ordinary nature of the NCC the meeting also reflected on how it would be constructed in terms of the delegations to the conference.
• The two delegations also discussed the duration of the NCC.

The stalwarts and the veterans will be holding a workshop on the 13th of December 2016 to deliberate and reflect on these issues.
