The ANC being part of the South African community and a political leader of such a community, is indeed impressed by the performance of Bafana-Bafana, our national soccer team, against France today (22 June 2010) in Bloemfontein.
The victory against France -the former soccer world champions- clearly shows Bafana-Bafana's preparedness for the next 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil.
We are indeed very proud that as we go out of this 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament, we have shown the world that we are capable to play football at the highest level. We are also very confident that the lessons learnt from this tournament will put us as a country and Bafana-Bafana in good speed for the next world cup.
Bafana-Bafana, we are proud of you as individuals and collectively, as well as the coach, the technical team and the South African Football Association (SAFA) for the best preparatory work done, and the work still to be done for this FIFA World Cup.
We are heartened by the support that all South Africans of all races, all backgrounds and of all persuasions have shown to Bafana-Bafana. We can only build on this support from everyone moving forward.
As South Africans, we must continue to fly our flag very high by being good hosts. We must continue to support all the teams by being the majority in all the encounters, until the semi finals, and the finals. We must at all times remember that we were honoured by being given the status to host this auspicious world-sporting event. To this extend, we have done well and we should continue. Indeed the world is just a global village. As a country thus far, we have not failed FIFA, the world and ourselves. We promised the world the most spectacular tournament, and we have started to deliver on our promises. Let us continue to deliver on these promises as good hosts until the end of the FIFA tournament on the 11 July 2010.
The ANC wishes all the qualifying teams to the next level the best in their quest for the victory.
