The African National Congress held its two day Provincial
General Council (PGC) this weekend under the theme Working together
we can do more, now is the time to fight poverty and create a
prosperous society.
The PGC was opened by the President of the ANC, Jacob Zuma, who
congratulated the ANC in KZN for their hard work in the recent
elections campaign which saw the ANC win with a massive electoral
victory of 62,9 %.
He called on the ANC to be humble in victory and not to
undermine the opposition in the province but always to show respect
to all opposition parties to enable a conducive working environment
in order to improve the lives of our people.
He then called for reconciliation between the ANC and IFP and
pledged to personally drive this programme for reconcialiation
between the two parties.
The first task of the PGC was to review the resolutions taken at
the last Provincial and National Conferences and to reinforce the
programme for implementation of the electoral mandate.
Secondly, the conference discussed the state of the organization
in terms of its regions and leagues to ensure that are indeed
fulfilling their constitutional mandates and carry out the
programmes of the organization.
Further, the PGC analysed in detail and thoroughly discussed the
recent general elections as we begin our preparations for the 2011
Local Government Elections.

best to ensure the success of the 2010 World Cup that takes place
in less than a year.
The PGC examined the Provincial Government's progress on
implementation and sought ways in which ANC branches could, in
their own wards, play a part in the implementation of the ANC's
manifesto.
The PGC was tasked with electing a new Provincial Secretary
following the resignation of former Secretary Senzo Mchunu who was
redeployed to serve as a MEC for Education. We are pleased to
announce our new Provincial Secretary is Sihle Zikalala who has
been acting in this position for the past month.
Cde Sihle Zikalala's election to the position of Provincial
Secretary created a vacancy for the position of deputy
secretary. An electoral process then took place and was concluded
via ballot voting. We are then also pleased to present to you our
new deputy secretary, Nomusa Dube.
The PGC was marked by a deep sense of unity and cohesion among

how to make the lives of our peoples better.
