The African National Congress (ANC) has noted a
Sunday newspaper report under the headline "ANC crushes COSATU bid".
We
wish to place on record that the document referred to by the newspaper was
not that of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) but a
document sponsored by the Alliance Secretariat to the recent Alliance Summit
in Esselen Park.
The summit resolved to rather return the document for
proper processing by the Alliance Secretariat through Alliance structures.
The newspaper report is therefore incorrect in saying that there were
attempts by any member of the Alliance of attempting to shift power from the
ANC to the Alliance.
Only after the document has been reworked, will it be
circulated within Alliance structures.
