The African National Congress (ANC) congratulates
President Jacob Zuma on being conferred with the Order of the Eagle of
Zambia - that country's highest distinction awarded by Zambia to freedom
fighters.
Not only has President Zuma distinguished himself as a leader
within ANC structures, he has been recognised as a peacemaker in Africa.
During the struggle for freedom in South Africa, he served the ANC in
various capacities based in several African countries, which include
Mozambique and Zambia. In 1987, comrade Zuma was based at the then ANC
Headquarters in Lusaka, Zambia, where he served as Head of Underground
Structures and later ANC Chief of Intelligence.
The ANC also welcomes as a
vote of confidence in President Zuma's leadership, the latest TNS research
survey, which indicates his growing popularity within the country. The
survey shows President Zuma's approval rating having increased to an
all-time high of 58% in November, with 75% of the South African Blacks
agreeing with his leadership.
The ANC and the country continue to
appreciate President Zuma's leadership, particularly his humble disposition
and being in touch with the people.
