The African National Congress salutes all South Africans and people of the world who took time off to honour President Nelson Mandela on the occasion of the fourth Nelson Mandela Day today coinciding with his birthday. The acknowledgment of the legendary contribution of Madiba is testimony of the impact Madiba had and continues to have on the unfolding struggle to unite and better the lives of our people. We believe that the spirit ofgoodwill deriving from the Mandela Day has achieved its intention of generating warmth, care and spreading a positive mindset amongst people. We would like to urge the people of South Africa and the world to make the 67 minutes a daily experience which may assist in fostering cohesion amongst ourpeople.
The African National Congress participated on a number of activities today to mark the Nelson Mandela Day. The day started with the visit to Ethembeni Orphanage in Doornfontein to donate clothes, food and appliances by the ANC staff. The team also assisted with caring for the orphans, cleaning the orphanage, fixing and painting of doors. The staff of the ANC Head Quarters was led by Comrade Jackson Mthembu, Amos Masondo and Ignatius Jacobs.
The Secretary General of the ANC went to Thuto lesedi High School in Vosloorus to teach history to matriculants. He was welcome by staff members and introduced to the class where he delivered the lessons. A number of ANC NEC members participated in various communities where they are deployed.The ANC will establish a team that will liaise with Ethembeni Orphnage to give continuous support thus making every day a Nelson Mandela Day.
