The African National Congress (ANC) welcomes the declaration by the National Social Cohesion Summit hosted by the South African government in Kliptown (Soweto) this week (4th- 5th July 2012).
As the ANC we support the summit declaration, which commits all stakeholders led by government to hold more summits at provincial and local level in the coming 12 months, leading to the hosting of the national summit in 2017.
The ANC calls upon all South Africans from all walks of life to ensure that the summit declaration is always respected and protected at all times by all South Africans.
The ANC will always support all efforts by government, business, civil society and all other stakeholders, to ensure that all South African cultural, religious and social values are respected and protect, as contained in the South African Constitution, regardless of their standing in society.
We equally call upon all South Africans and their organisations, including the fourth estate to also embrace the declaration of the Summit so that at a time to come we can all say without any fear of contradiction that South Africa belongs to all who lives in it, black and white, united in their cultural diversity.
