The African National Congress (ANC) today (7 February 2010) pulled all the stops to ensure a resounding success in its commemoration of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the release from prison of struggle stalwart Nelson Mandela and the unbaning of political organisations.
All ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) members have - from this weekend - been deployed to the Western Cape to strengthen the ANC mass mobilisation campaign in that province, which has seen door-to-door, cadres forums, walkabouts, community meetings and regional task team gatherings taking place. These form part of the organisation's offensive to win back the province from the Democratic Alliance.
ANC President Jacob Zuma, Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, National Chairperson Baleka Mbete, Secretary General Gwede Mantashe, Deputy Secretary General Thandi Modise, Treasurer-General Mathews Phosa and other NEC members today kicked off ANC campaign trails in various Western Cape regions which include Boland, Dullar Omar, West Coast, Grabouw and townships of Zwelihle, Mount Pleasant, Gugulethu, Embekweni, Khayelitsha, Kayamnandi, Lingelethu, Philipie, Chatsworth and in informal settlements. The campaign, which will culminate in this week's State Of the Nation Address by President Zuma in Parliament, is aimed at beefing up the ANC organising and campaigns machinery ahead of the 2011 elections and beyond.
The ANC will tomorrow (8 February 2010) hold its National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in the Western Cape, which will be addressed by President Zuma and Secretary General Gwede Mantashe.
