The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Letsemeng Local Municipality vehemently condemns Mayor Bonolo Mocwaledi's exploitation of municipal resources to influence voter registration.
In the past fortnight, Mayor Mocwaledi distributed title deeds in Bolokanang and Jacobsdal, a move we believe was orchestrated independently, excluding opposition councillors, and serving the sole purpose of benefiting the ANC. While the residents of Haniville in Petrusburg endured a two-month water crisis, the sudden deployment of water trucks during the registration weekend raises questions about due processes.
The DA will write to the acting Municipal Manager, Boitumelo Mokomela, seeking clarification on the exclusive provision of trucks during the registration weekend, leaving the community neglected for months. It is imperative to ascertain whether the correct procedures were followed and why the water crisis was not addressed earlier.
The ANC in Letsemeng persistently exploits the vulnerable, employing any means to secure votes. We are steadfast in our commitment to ethical governance and cannot idly witness the abuse of power for political gain.
We will take immediate action by addressing a formal enquiry to the acting MM, demanding an explanation for the preferential allocation of resources during the registration weekend.
The community deserves transparency and fair governance. As we approach 2024, the DA urges community members to make an informed decision, voting for change and ending the ANC's misuse of power.
Issued by Thabo Nthapo - DA Councillor Letsemeng Local Municipality
