Abdul Salam Sayed Hassan, head of the five-strong Amnesty delegation that arrived Saturday, told reporters the aim of the trip was to inform Libyan leaders of the "organisation's concerns" over human rights in Libya.
The Amnesty team held a first round of talks with officials from the Kadhafi Foundation, a charitable organisation headed by Seif al-Islam, son of Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi.
Meetings with the ministers of justice and foreign affairs are expected, said Hassan, who heads up Amnesty's Middle East and Africa office.
Libya, which only last year chaired the UN's top human rights body, has been pilloried in the West for abrogating numerous of its citizens' rights. – Sapa-AFP.
