Agri SA has learned with surprise of a letter apparently published on LinkedIn and thereafter disseminated on social media regarding a grouping – the Global Association of Billionaires and Millionaires (GABM) - who had reportedly raised R1 billion in drought aid for farmers in South Africa.
Agri SA established a drought relief fund to which various large companies have already made donations. The Global Association of Billionaires and Millionaires is welcome to deposit any drought-relief donations into this fund, said Christo van der Rheede, Deputy Executive Director of Agri SA, in Pretoria. Agri SA’s modus operandi in this regard is that where organisations set conditions for donations, discussions would take place and agreements concluded. “Agri SA cannot respond to reports on social media or comply with conditions which had not been subject to negotiation. Any organisation that wishes to contribute to the drought relief fund is welcome to contact Agri SA directly. The fund is managed in a responsible manner and transparent records are kept of all expenses” said Van der Rheede.
