The civil rights organisation AfriForum has requested Lieutenant-General Thulani Reymond Ntobela, the SAPS provincial commissioner in Mpumalanga, to take preventative action in order to avoid threats of violence by the PAC and aggrieved land claimants from being carried out against business owners situated in the old Mbombela location.
In a letter sent to all the business owners, the PAC and claimants threatened to embark on violent action against any business situated at their former places of residence with a view to repossessing their former land.
‘I wrote a letter to the commissioner and later called him, and he assured me that people had been deployed to monitor the situation. We will keep in contact to see that none of these threats are carried out. I don’t understand the logic of making threats against business owners when you feel aggrieved by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform’s bad administration,” Ivan Herselman, AfriForum’s organiser for Mpumalanga, said.
