AfriForum has today urgently called on President Jacob Zuma and the Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa to intervene in the labour unrest in the Western Cape, after the organisation learnt that a shooting broke out there today. It is widely reported on social media that a farmer was allegedly murdered by striking workers in Wellington. The alleged murder has however not been confirmed yet.

AfriForum’s Deputy CEO, Ernst Roets described the situation at De Doorns as a result of dubious political leadership. “We expect Minister Mthethwa to personally visit the scene and to ensure that the transgressors are prosecuted successfully,” Roets said.
