David Makhura, Premier of Gauteng, must either be uninformed, naïve of urgently seeking political support by stating that residential areas are still divided on a racial basis.

This is the opinion of the National Spokesperson for AfriBusiness, Stefan Pieterse, following a statement made by Makhura yesterday claiming that safety complexes and luxurious estates are solely built on race and income and must be changed urgently.

“Developers seek land according to opportunities and anyone is welcome to purchase land, even the State. Black, White and Brown people purchase properties in safety complexes and estates for safety reasons or/and due to the investment value of such properties. It has nothing to do with patterns from the Apartheid era,” Pieterse says.

Makhura says that land will be awarded to developers according to very strict regulations and requirements. He did however not mention what these regulations and requirements are or the legislation it will have to adhere to.

AfriBusiness will assist all developers whose developments are denied due the fact that it doesn’t adhere to Makhura’s “specific requirements”.
