The Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) is still to decide the fate of an employee suspended in connection with the multi-million rand heist at Johannesburg International Airport in March, the company said on Tuesday.

"Magdalene Moonsamy was suspended in July but a decision on her suspension was still to be finalised," said Acsa spokesman Solomon Makgale.

Three other Acsa employees were sacked in July after they reportedly had unusually large sums of money in their possession.

Nazir Ismail, Rookaya Ibrahim and Sean Soobramoney were each found with $100 000 or more at the time of their arrests.

Ismail had $330 000 and R41 000; Ibrahim had $190 000 and R190 000 and Soobramoney had $100 000.

Moonsamy was not found with foreign currency or large sums of local money.

Five people accused of the R77-million heist were granted bail of between R20 000 and R50 000 by a Kempton Park Regional Court magistrate in July.

Shaheed Rudolf, 43, of Eersterus, Rushdee Rudolf, 42, of Cape Town and Christopher Billings were granted bail of R50 000 each.

Tebogo Nhlapho and Fox Sithole, 31, of Vosloorus were released on R10 000 and R20 000 bail, respectively.

The sixth accused, 37-year-old Namibian national Uakotokia Tjinkinda, was refused bail on the basis that he was a flight risk.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Peter Mbonani said the matter was postponed to October 12 for trial. (Sapa)
