"The low pass rate of high school learners, highlighted by the unacceptably low pass rate of 2009 matric learners is of critical concern. Invaluable time has been wasted and urgent action must now be taken to address the situation".
The ACDP has called on members of the public to ensure that this information gets to the relevant stakeholders, especially teachers and principals.
Issues include:
• curriculum content
• teacher development
• class size
• managerial capacity at schools
• orientating schools towards specialization
• values in education
Submissions for consideration by the Portfolio Committee on Basic Education are also invited on the issue of access to education, including:
• inclusive education
• homeless children/ orphans
• geographic location of schools and infrastructure
• language barriers
• children in trouble with the law and education in prisons
Invitations are open to all interested individuals and organizations, to be submitted on 28th February 2010.
