The Department of Social Development under the leadership of Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, in partnership with GVK Siyazama Construction, Elliott Mobility, the National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities (NCPPDSA) as well as Motswako Office Solutions, will hand over the renovated house back to the family on Friday 03rd October 2014.

The Department has made interventions to address human rights issues affecting a young adult with disabilities and his grandmother in Emndeni, Soweto. Interventions included renovations to the existing house to make it accessible for the young man with a disability, finding sponsorship for a suitable wheelchair, finding placement for Siyabonga in a centre for youth with disabilities, conducting medical assessment on Siyabonga, and sourcing sponsorship to replace old furniture.
The house renovations were completed on the 30th September 2014 and stakeholders have been invited to the handover of the site back to the family on Friday, the 3rd of October 2014.

The handover of the house is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date         : 03 October 2014
Venue      : 2436 Sondela Street Emndeni-Soweto
Time        : 10:00

Furthermore, the event happens within the context of the national older persons week which commenced on 29 September - 05 October 2014 as we honour older persons for the sacrifices they have made and for still being a pillar of support in families and reliable resource in our lives today.

The interventions will create an opportunity for Siyabonga to move independently and participate in all aspects within the community. As the Department, we are committed to the agenda of social transformation that is embodied in the principle of social justice and the Bill of Rights contained in our Constitution. We endeavor to create a better life for the poor, vulnerable and excluded people in our society.
