Former President Jacob Zuma’s legal representatives will be in the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein today to appeal against the court ruling obtained by the civil rights organisation AfriForum in December 2021, that Zuma’s medical parole was illegally granted. Both parties’ arguments will be heard by the court.

The Constitutional Court sentenced Zuma to 15 months in prison in June 2021 for contempt of court, after he refused to appear before the Zondo Commission on State Capture over corruption during his presidency.

Zuma began serving his sentence at the end of July 2021 but was released on medical parole on 5 September 2021. The medical parole was approved by Arthur Fraser, who was the National Commissioner for Correctional Services at the time, even though the medical parole board did not find that Zuma qualified for medical parole.
