Provincial Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities, Mireille Wenger, is excited to confirm the appointment of Ms Julinda Gantana as the Head Official of the Western Cape Provincial Treasury, a historic first.

“Ms Gantana has more than 30 years’ experience in the public sector, including five years in the senior management team of the Western Cape Provincial Treasury. She has a clear passion for ensuring that every cent of public money is responsibly spent for maximum benefit of every resident of this province. Her diverse experience and commitment to public sector excellence is especially crucial in our current tough financial climate,” said Minister Wenger.

Ms Gantana was born and raised in Cape Town. She obtained her undergraduate degree, and higher diploma in Education, from the University of the Western Cape, followed by an Honours degree in Psychology from the same institution.  In 2009 she obtained her master’s degree in business leadership (MBL) from the University of South Africa.

Before starting her career in public finance, Ms Gantana spent two years as an Educator, giving her a unique understanding of public service and positioning her perfectly to lead the Provincial Treasury in their people-first approach to public finance and budgeting.

Speaking about her vision for the Provincial Treasury going forward, Ms Gantana said that, “the Western Cape Treasury should take the lead in budget reform in a decentralised fiscal system and in adopting an integrated and coordinated approach to service delivery. We need to be working towards greater fiscal autonomy with the citizen at the very centre, underpinned by evidence-based decision making.”

“I am confident that Ms Gantana will lead the Treasury and its hard-working team with her trademark passion and vision for a more prosperous province, with the focus remaining on responsible fiscal management and forward planning. Now more than ever we need the best people in our Province and government, like Ms Gantana, to help unlock the full potential of the economy to expand and create thousands of jobs. I look forward to working together toward that goal,” concluded Minister Wenger.
