ActionSA reiterates our call for the Tshwane’s “Ghost Mayor” to present a maintenance plan for the City’s substations following yet another round of prolonged electrical blackouts and water shortages across the length and breadth of the city. Since the beginning of this month, residents in the city have experienced a lack of service delivery of unprecedented proportions.

Just as the residents of Faire Glen, Olympus, Equestria, Lombardy, Donkerhoek, Wapadrand, Boardwalk, Zwavelpoort, and Silverlakes breathe the sigh of relief that their electricity has been restored, residents of Lotus Gardens in Pretoria West, Garankuwa and Mabopane in Pretoria North and residents of Hammanskraal in the far north, have not just been plunged into darkness, but they are now also being denied access to water.

The City is taking from Peter, to give to Paul.

As has become the norm, the City of Tshwane’s “Ghost Mayor”, Cllr Randall Williams, is nowhere to be seen as service delivery within the city he fails to lead continues to deteriorate and residents suffer.

Increasingly residents of Tshwane turning to ActionSA to intervene. This is, undoubtedly, demonstrates a Vote of No Confidence in the Mayor and his administration. Conversely, it underscores growing confidence in ActionSA’s ability to champion their service delivery needs even from outside council.

ActionSA will, therefore, soon launch a service delivery reporting email address for escalation of service delivery failures by the City to assist in the coordination of our interventions. We will also assist residents to claim costs incurred due to the failures by the city, in terms of existing laws and regulatory provisions.

We reiterate that whilst these interventions are assisting in the short-term, the only way to bring lasting change and real service delivery to the City of Tshwane in the long-term residents of Tshwane must exercise their constitutional right and vote out the “Ghost Mayor”, Cllr Randall Williams, and his DA-led administration.

In the coming Local Government Elections, ActionSA stands ready to ensure the delivery of quality services to the residents. We will ensure that power interruptions and water outages become a thing of the past by upgrading and emphasising maintenance of critical infrastructure, pursuing affordable independent electricity procurement opportunities, and effecting innovations in the delivery of water.

In preparation for this, the people of Tshwane should ensure that they go out in their numbers and register to vote by visiting https://registertovote.elections.org.za/welcome  in order to vote during the coming local government elections and usher in an ActionSA-led Government that will prioritize service delivery in the City of Tshwane.
