South Africa congratulates Mr Patrick O’leary for his SADC Media Awards entry which won second prize in the photo category of the regional competition. The award was announced on 17 August by the outgoing Chairperson of SADC, His Excellency Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique, during the opening ceremony of the 41st SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government taking place in the Republic of Malawi.

The SADC Media Awards are aimed at promoting excellence in the fields of Print, Radio, Television and Photo journalism. They also serve as a link for coordination and synchronization between formal structures of SADC member states and media.

These awards further seek to bring and enhance partnership between media and government institutions in advancing the achievements and good stories of this region in bettering the lives of its citizens.

Mr Patrick O’leary is a seasoned journalist specialising in motor journalism. He has travelled across the region to cover stories affecting the trucking industry. SADC’s Regional Infrastructure Development Master Plan guides the developments in key infrastructure projects such as road, rail and ports. The plan also acts as a framework for planning and cooperation with development partners and the private sector. Infrastructure was also a key component of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan, a critical blueprint of SADC.
