The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in the Gauteng Province, led by its Chairperson, Cllr. Jongizizwe Dhlabathi will convene its first annual Provincial Members Assembly (PMA) of the current term of local government (2021-2026) at the Kievits Kroon Estate in the City of Tshwane on the 7th -8th of November 2022. 

To be held under the theme “Promoting Service Delivery and Good Governance through Ethical Leadership, Professionalism and Effective Financial Management”, the PMA is a constitutional meeting of all municipalities in the province which is convened in between provincial conferences, the PMA will bring together under one roof senior decision makers in municipalities made up of Mayors, Speakers, Municipal Managers as well as Chief Financial Officers.

Gauteng Premier, Hon. Panyaza Lesufi will deliver the keynote address and set the tone for the two-day deliberations. Members of the Gauteng Executive Committee (MECs), namely Mzi Khumalo (CoGTA) and Tasneem Motara (Economic Development) will also attend and partake in the PMA discussions.

Key to the agenda of the PMA will be the impact of coalition governments on service delivery and municipal governance as well as ethical leadership as a catalyst for effective oversight and accountability

The PMA will further serve as a platform for robust engagements among sector specialists in the following panel discussions;

State of local government in Gauteng and the future of the district development model

Scaling up private investment for public infrastructure

Fostering consequence management in municipalities

Members of the media are invited to be part of the Provincial Members’ Assembly on day one of the event for the open session.
