The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape East Region is proud to announce that today, together with our coalition partner, the KOP, we have become the governing coalition in the Laingsburg Local Municipality.

Both parties have committed to bringing open, honest, accountable, and responsive governance to the people of Laingsburg. The new coalition will provide both partners the opportunity to deliver a life-changing government to the residents of the municipality, where they now jointly command a majority of seats.

The two coalition partners have acknowledge that this new government must be qualitatively different from the previous administration. It will include the use of public resources to benefit all the people, while rooting out corruption wherever it manifests itself and by whomever it is committed. Further to this, the coalition will govern with care for its residents, especially the most vulnerable, and will seek to provide opportunities and safety for all.

The DA congratulates the newly-elected Municipal leadership that includes Cllr Recardo Louw of KOP as Mayor and Cllr Bertie van As of the DA as Deputy Mayor. Cllr Lindi Potgieter of the DA, whose dedication to the Laingsburg community is unconditional, and was once again demonstrated during the Covid-19 pandemic, was duly elected as Council Speaker.

The DA has total confidence in the new coalition and look forward to the effective delivery of services to residents.
