Eskom has informed Rand Water of its planned maintenance to work on the transformers that supply power at the Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant (ZWTP). The Eight (8)-hour planned maintenance is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 21 January 2024, from 08h00 until 15h00.

During this period, pumping capacity will be reduced at Eikenhof, Palmiet and Mapleton Systems. As a result, some areas in the Cities of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane may experience low pressure to no water supply. The implementation of the project may also impact water supply to the local municipalities of Rand West, Mogale City, Merafong Madibeng, Lesedi, Govan Mbeki, Rustenburg, and Victor Khanye.

In terms of Communication Protocol, Rand Water has officially notified its municipal customers regarding the upcoming project within the prescribed 21-day prior notice arrangement. This advance notice is intended to enable these entities to inform their respective customers, implement suitable contingency strategies, and manage storage capacity at the municipal level effectively. As a result, municipal customers who will or likely to be impacted are expected to advise customers on the extent and the impact of water supply shortages in their respective areas. #120 years of Excellence 2

It is important to mention that during this period, Rand Water will also undertake maintenance work that will entail performing preventive maintenance task of replacing defective valves on the Q2 Pipeline that supplies water from the Eikenhof System.

Rand Water is committed to upgrading infrastructure to ensure sustainable and an uninterrupted water supply.
