The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) in collaboration with Hennops Revival NPO, the City of Tshwane Municipality among other partners are spearheading a “Heal the Hennops” clean-up, Recycling and Upcycling Day for World Cleanup Day in Centurion on Saturday, 19 September 2020.
A diverse group of companies, NGO’s and government entities will come together on Saturday, 19 September to remove huge amounts of litter trapped in the trees and the banks of the Hennops River. The trees have become natural litter traps where masses of plastic have accumulated as a result of flooding and rains which have brought tons of human waste down the River. These waste items are constantly releasing toxins into the river and damaging the ecosystem around them.
This clean-up campaign is part of the Department’s Clear Rivers Campaign, Departmental initiative which encourages individuals, businesses and civil society organisations to roll up their sleeves and be part of cleaning water resources such as rivers, streams and wetlands.
