The average dam level for dams in the Western Cape has increased to 62.2%. The latest prediction by the South African Weather Services indicate that some more light rainfall can be expected across parts of the province during the remainder of this week. In addition gale force winds are expected between Cape Point and Cape Agulhas tomorrow.

Anton Bredell, the minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in the Western Cape, says some regions continue to struggle.

“The interior parts of the province, the Karoo regions, remain in distress particularly in the agricultural sector. These regions have not had good rainfall for more than five years. We continue to monitor and support the affected regions along with our provincial and national colleagues.”

The latest levels for dams providing water to the City of Cape Town, are 62.5% (2019: 52.5%). The public continues to be urged to use water responsibly and as sparingly as possible.
