Ramaphosa to announce new BEE Advisory Council

President Cyril Ramaphosa will this week announce the appointment of the new Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Advisory Council, which will help the country expand the frontiers of BBBEE.

The council, comprising government, business, labour and other stakeholders, was established to champion the cause of economic transformation.

Ramaphosa said while there has been significant progress over the last two decades, there are some areas where there has been regression.

He explained that the country’s commitment to entrench and deepen economic empowerment was unwavering.

Masina provisionally re-elected ANC Ekurhuleni chairperson, with 19 votes still to be counted

Following hours of delays and arguments about credentials, Mzwandile Masina was provisionally re-elected as regional leader at the ANC conference in Ekurhuleni.  

Masina beat his rival and former regional treasurer, Doctor Xhakaza.

Masina got 163 votes while Xhakaza obtained 151 votes. 

The Nineteen quarantined ballots that were set aside will be counted once disputes about the participation of the delegates are resolved.

Logistics legal head warns of financial fallout from KZN floods

Ongoing delays and congestion, as businesses scramble to meet their obligations to clients, mean the overall losses resulting from recent flooding in KwaZulu-Natal keep piling up.

Transnet sent an internal memo to stakeholders in Durban's regional logistics sector advising them that its technical team was making progress in clearing the backlogs caused by April's flooding in KwaZulu-Natal and heavy rains during the past weekend.

However, the lingering after-effects are expected to prove just as detrimental to business operations and the fate and finances of many businesses in the logistics sector.

Outbound lanes leading to the Durban port terminal have now been opened to cater for both directions of flow, although capacity has effectively been halved.
