Vaccines to be distributed at 87 sites on Day 1 of Phase 2 vaccination rollout

The start of the second phase of the country's vaccine rollout will see 4 288 South Africans over the age of 60 vaccinated at 87 vaccination sites, alongside 7 707 healthcare workers.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize the South African government is aiming to vaccinate five-million citizens older than 60 by the end of June.

Mkhize said government will continue to vaccinate healthcare workers and complete the targeted 1.2-million by the end of the week.

The country was scheduled to receive another 325 260 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, bringing the total Pfizer doses in the country to 975 780 by Monday morning.

Ace Magashule says he will never leave the ANC

Suspended ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule says he will never leave the party nor be banned from the party.  

Magashule was addressing former President Jacob Zuma’s supporters outside the Pietermaritzburg High Court following Zuma’s brief appearance in court on corruption charges.

Zuma and the French arms company Thales are accused of colluding in the now infamous arms deal case. 

The case was postponed to May 26.

Ramaphosa says Israel’s actions are a violation of international law

In his weekly letter to the nation, President Cyril Ramaphosa has spoken out against the Israel-Palestine conflict, calling Israel’s actions a violation of international law.

This follows the escalating violence between Palestine and Israel, as Israel continues with plans to evict Palestinians from the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah to make way for Israeli settlements.

Ramaphosa said Israel is demonstrating a total disregard for successive United Nations Security Council resolutions that call for an end to the occupation of Palestinian land and for the fulfillment of the rights of Palestinians.

Ramaphosa warned that if the issue of illegal occupation is not addressed, there will never be peace.
