Former president Jacob Zuma's lawyer Dan Mantsha has accused the State capture commission of inquiry of an "unfortunate attempt at instigating the public" against his client.

Zuma has confirmed that he will attend the commission on July 15 to 19 even though the commission will not furnish him with questions in advance, which he requested.

In a letter Mantsha wrote, the former president said the commission's decision to issue a media statement amounted to "nothing but a disinformation campaign and an unfortunate attempt at instigating the public against our client".

South Africa adds 22 000 jobs in first quarter of 2019

Employment in South Africa's non-agricultural formal sector grew by 22 000 in the first quarter of 2019, Stats SA announced in its latest Quarterly Employment Statistics bulletin.

This follows an increase of 87 000 jobs in the last quarter of 2018.

The results are based on a sample survey conducted by Stats SA and include findings on employment in the non-agricultural formal sector.

Stats SA reported that employment increased from December 2018 to March 2019.

Western Cape government disappointed by Fikile Mbalula's visit to Cape Town

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said the provincial government was disappointed that Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula did not seek to engage the provincial leadership during his visit to Cape Town to investigate commuter rail service challenges.

On Tuesday morning, Mbalula experienced for himself the daily frustrations that train commuters face in Cape Town, as his train was seriously delayed before he eventually abandoned it to take a Prasa bus to complete his full planned trip.

Winde said they need Minister Mbalula to apply his trademark energy to fixing this problem with urgency.
