SA business welcomes Moody's reprieve, urges government to effect economic reforms

Business Unity South Africa has urged the government to effect urgent economic reforms after Moody's Investors Service deferred a review of the country's Baa3 rating which had been expected on Friday.

This means South Africa stays one notch above sub-investment grade with a stable outlook until the ratings agency's next review in November.

Busa chief executive Tanya Cohen said the Moody’s reprieve was an opportunity to institute urgent reforms, including establishing political stability and a credible plan for struggling state-owned enterprises, among others.

DA says Ramaphosa is running scared on live debate

The DA has charged that President Cyril Ramaphosa's alleged refusal to participate in the much-anticipated Presidential Debates ahead of the May elections is a sign that he is "running scared".

This comes after the Presidential Debates Coordinator Dr Bheki Shongwe, wrote to all participants that the live debate would be cancelled after ANC did not accept the invitation to participate in the debate.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane said the debate was necessary for solutions to be found on the Eskom crisis, the economy and corruption as well as the differences in what the ANC and DA have to offer to citizens in terms of policy.

Malema says his party doesn’t want votes from xenophobic people

EFF leader Julius Malema denounced xenophobic attacks against Africans during a party rally in Rustenburg in the North West yesterday. 

Malema reiterated his call for all Africans to unite and said those who are xenophobic and disagreed with the party could 'keep their votes'.

He was referring to a recent spate of xenophobic attacks in KwaZulu-Natal which saw two people fatally wounded. 

He urged supporters to love other Africans as they love themselves and to refrain from attacking foreign nationals.
