The African National Congress (ANC) has learned with shock and sadness about the untimely passing of Jabu Mabuza, former Chairperson and Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ESKOM. He reportedly succumbed to COVID-19 complications.

Mabuza was an integral part of the South African business landscape for many years.

He will be remembered as a distinguished and formidable businessman who touched the lives of South Africans in a profound way.

Mabuza has had a colourful history in the business world and has made a huge impact wherever he was involved.

In 1988, he established the Foundation for African Business and Consumer Services (FABCOS), which sought to represent the interests of informal black business.

He was the CEO of Tsogo Sun Holdings, and by 2012 he was Chairperson of Telkom. He held this position for seven years.

In 2018, following the merger of Anheuser Busch InBev and SAB Miller, Mabuza was appointed Chairperson of its Africa division. He also served as Chairperson of the Casino Association of South Africa, Chairperson of Business Leadership SA, and President of Business Unity South Africa.

At the time of his passing, he was Chairperson of Net1 and Sun International boards.

The people of South Africa will treasure his memory as one of the nation's most distinguished sons who contributed enormously to the reconstruction and development of our country.

The ANC conveys its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the people of South Africa as a whole. We hope they will find comfort in the knowledge that the entire nation shares in their grief. We wish them strength and fortitude in this difficult time.
