ActionSA Congratulates the Class of 2023 from SA Van Swum High School in particular for their incredible success despite disruption due to loadshedding.

In 2023 during the examination period, we visited schools in around the province to give our learners words of encouragement. It was of great concern to witness some of the pupils subjected to studying with flashlights and candles.

Images of matric learners emerged on various media platforms. These learners did not only struggle with the ability to efficiently read and study under undesirable conditions, but they were unable to access essential learning tools and devices which are key for modern day teaching and learning to take place.

ActionSA took to the media demanding that Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, to provides answers on how she plans to mitigate the disruptions of learning and studying. Our request fell to deaf ears.

We take this opportunity to congratulate learners for not giving up, giving up could have been an easy decision to take at the time but they persevered through the challenges. They have had to face and overcome many obstacles beyond simply ensuring that they put in enough study time.

Our course to fight and ensure that this unconstitutional act by the ruling government comes to end continues. Our policy advocates for immediate interventions in critical sectors such as education to ensure schools and other places of learning are protected against loadshedding to avoid interruptions in learning and teaching.

When ActionSA takes over government post 2024 Elections, we will ensure reliable power supply necessary to provide a conducive environment for the nurturing of leaners’ intellectual capabilities which is key to the growth and development of our education system.
