EVENTS WHERE THE SUB-COMMITTEE WILL PLAY A CENTRAL ROLE:
i) First Category for the National Living Treasure Award
ii) Cultural City of the Year
During the end of June the subcommittee will undertake an Education Tour to Cuba, with the purpose of finding out how they managed to be where they are today, specifically wrt the Arts.
The purpose of these visits are to monitor progress made in the different places and to advise them on issues that need to be given priority.
A meeting with the PED to discuss the role of culture in and out through Parliament will be held.
The cultural industry growth project will be monitored, the Convenor will be invited to all the steering committee meetings, to keep the committee informed and to be able to evaluate the progress from time to time.
A report on Sambro and Duldro will be presented by Comrade Gill during the first week of August.
A memo will be sent to all provinces to make their inputs concerning the living treasures following that will be a category for the year 1998 and will be announced by the President during the Heritage Day
A meeting with the performing Arts Councils, Status Report.
Three art festivals are organised by different provinces where the subcommittee will be playing a major role. The festivals will be as follows:
This province has already launched the Manguang African cultural festival on the 18th June in Cape Town. The festival will be at the Province.
The sub-committee will be finalising its year programme by evaluating all the Arts Councils, projects in different provinces and preparing its programme for 1998.
