The news of the sad passing away of the veteran of our struggle and entrepreneur, Cde Themba Majozi left many of us as young people devastated.

We have been learning from him and drawing inspiration from his teachings. He is a leader who spent time encouraging us as young people in eThekwini Region and Lamontville in particular to play a role in the building of this nation.

I recall that ahead of the local government elections in 2016, in my private discussion with him, he emphasized the need for young people to vote overwhelmingly for the party of OR Tambo in various municipalities.

It is encouraging that many youth leaders have been deployed as mayors, speakers, councillors into councils of various district and local municipalities including eThekwini.

Critically, he also suggested that it was within our rights as young people to insist that young people must be deployed into various layers of government including local government. We shared the same views that young people who come into leadership positions at an early age will become a real human resources investment for this country.

Cde Themba Majozi inculcated a culture of activism and advocated for youth participation in all initiatives aimed at building this province.

Drawing inspiration from his teachings, there are many young people who have offered to play a role in ensuring that the ANC leads all efforts in registering progress in the area of road infrastructure especially in previously inaccessible areas.

As a fitting tribute to Cde Themba Majozi, we will work hard, using our energy, to ensure that communities that were previously neglected have access to electricity, water and sanitation.

Speaking on behalf of many young people, we will use the upcoming local government elections, to ensure that we get many young people to be at the helm of municipalities. We want them to inject speed into service delivery.

Youth leaders who are councilors must work for the creation of an environment conducive to learning and teaching, fighting crime and ensuring peace and stability.

As an entrepreneur, Cde Themba Majozi played a critical role in advancing the entrepreneurship revolution.

As inspired by his commitment towards radical economic transformation, as young people we will continue to push for the implementation of the ANC resolutions on radical economic transformation.

We will continue to discuss strategies that will empower youth leaders in municipal councils to be seized with the business of stimulating local economic development.

The ANC-led provincial government is emphasizing the importance of the alignment of the municipalities’ Integrated Development Plans with the Provincial Growth and Development Plan.

We will accordingly push for workshops in various municipalities to assist to ensure this alignment. The main objective is to ensure that the identified sectors of the economy create job opportunities for young people and local communities in general.
