Why businesses need to have a Covid-19 workplace plan – especially under level 2 of lockdown

While President Cyril Ramaphosa has allowed the recommencement of most economic activities under alert level 2 (AL2) of the national lockdown, he has cautioned the nation in relation to relevant health and safety protocols so as to ensure that South Africa is not subject to a “second wave” of Covid-19 infections. Accordingly, businesses remain obligated to comply with strict health and safety protocols, including social distancing, hygiene practices and the wearing of masks.

In light of this, experts from Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr have compiled an Employment Revival Guide to assist employers with the continuation or resumption of operations in accordance with AL2 regulations.

“With the easing of lockdown regulations comes the increased movement of people and more workers returning to workplaces. Employers need to ensure they understand their duties – and also what responsibilities fall on employees to help mitigate a second wave,” says Aadil Patel Director and National Head of the Employment Practice at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr.
