Today, The United National Transport Union (UNTU) reminded Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Public Enterprises, that he agreed to meet with the Leadership of the Union more than a year ago, but that no date has been forthcoming.

Gordhan agreed to meet with UNTU on the 3 March last year.

Steve Harris, General Secretary of UNTU, says that although the Union realises the Minister has a very demanding portfolio that has taken up all of his time over recent months to try and limit the devastating damage caused to all South Africans by the state capture over the past (8) eight years, UNTU’s matters is also urgent and pressing.

The Union has always been of the view that both Transnet and the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) should account to the same Minister as it will only be to the financial benefit of both if they were to work in conjunction with each other.

UNTU would also like to discuss with the Minister on how the Union can assist the Government to bring success back to rail.
