UASA negotiated a 6% across the board increase for its members in the sugar and refining industry. The increase is effective from 1 April 2019.

Together with the shift allowance agreement signed on 28 January 2019, this represents UASA’s full and final settlement between the parties.

Circumstances in the sugar sector are currently difficult, but UASA did the best it could to increase wages while at the same time ensuring job security for its members.

Armed with a mandate from UASA members in the sector, there was no need for further negotiation with the employers involved.
