 South Africa's confirmed Covid-19 cases rise to 364 328, deaths to 5 033

As of Sunday, the number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in South Africa was 364 328, with 13 449 new cases identified. The number of Covid-19-related deaths increased by 85, bringing the total to 5 033, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said.

The latest provincial breakdown was as follows: 

Eastern Cape - 63 181 (17.3 percent)

Free State - 9 993 (2.7)

Gauteng - 133 617 (36.7)

KwaZulu-Natal - 43 215 (11.9)

Limpopo - 4 928 (1.4)

Mpumalanga - 7 129 (2.0)

North West - 14 006 (3.8)

Northern Cape  - 2 266 (0.6)

Western Cape - 85 926 (23.6 percent)

Unknown - 67 (0.0)

A total of 2 471 747 tests had been processed to date, of which 49 006 had been conducted since the previous report on Saturday.

"Regrettably we report 85 new Covid-19 related deaths. This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 5 033. We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased. The number of recoveries currently stands at 191 059 which translates to a recovery rate of 52.4 percent," Mkhize said.

The provincial breakdown was as follows:

Eastern Cape - 825 deaths and 44 317 recoveries

Free State - 47 and 1 103

Gauteng - 986 and 58 512

KwaZulu-Natal - 416 and 11 055

Limpopo - 33 and 2 042

Mpumalanga - 44 and 1 958

North West - 48 and 2 890

Northern Cape - 15 and 772

Western Cape - 2 619 deaths and 68 410 recoveries
