Solidarity’s preferred candidate for Eskom’s top job is Dan Marokane

Solidarity today indicated that its preferred candidate for the Eskom CEO job is Dan Marokane, with Ayanda Noah as second choice. This comes after the shortlist for the Eskom CEO post was announced.

According to Solidarity, both Marokane and Noah have sufficient management experience and the required technical knowledge gained as part of their engineering-related background. Both candidates’ work experience, both within and outside of Eskom, bears testimony to sound judgment and well-considered executive decisions.

“The best chief executive for Eskom is the one who will be prepared to steer the energy utility without tolerating political interference or bowing the knee to the ANC government’s misdemeanour. Former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter proved that this is no easy task,” Solidarity Chief Executive Dr Dirk Hermann said. “It is for this very reason that Solidarity supports Marokane’s appointment. In addition to his qualification and experience, he has already proven that he will not hesitate to act in Eskom’s best interests, even if it means losing favour with politicians.

“It is sad that a chief executive of an entity like Eskom must possess skills to protect the entity from government exploitation. This is, however, a requirement that will play a key role in the successful turnaround of the energy utility. It is crucial that a person with strong managerial skills, political knowledge and the determination to take the right decisions is appointed to the position. In our opinion, Dan Marokane is the most suitable candidate on the shortlist,” Hermann concluded.
