Solidarity meets with minister over Cuban engineers

On 10 May Solidarity will meet with Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation Lindiwe Sisulu and her department. This comes after Solidarity received a letter from the department in reaction to the legal process Solidarity had instituted to question the lawfulness of importing Cuban engineers for water and infrastructure projects.

“The fact remains that the Cuban engineers do not meet the requirements of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and can therefore only be used to a limited extent for the work they are supposed to do. However, the crux of the matter is that South Africa has enough engineers who have more than sufficient knowledge and experience on their home soil to undertake such projects.
